The Influence of the Famous Ceramic Artists of Our Days
Ceramics is a separate trend, more a part of plastic art. This kind of art has its prominent and famous ceramic artists to boast. Most of modern ceramic artists use in their works a combination of clay-based bodies which are fired in a special kiln in order to get a finished art piece. This is the basic technique used in ceramics. However, the contemporary artists also use such materials as glass and cement except the standard clay.
To the most famous ceramic sculptors belongs Bernard Howell Leach who is known also as the "Father of the classic British studio pottery". He combined in his works the techniques of London Art School and some methods borrowed from the famous Japanese ceramist - Shigekichi Urano. He founded the Leach Pottery Studio and taught his students how to mix in equal proportions in their art pieces technique, philosophy and design elements. Some of his works are beyond selling and one can see them only in several English museums including the Tate St. Ives.
Mentioning another remarkable Japanese ceramist Shoji Hamada it should be said he is a sort of related to Leach's life and work since they were friends and co-workers. This ceramist trained his distinctive technique at Tokyo institute of Technology in the pottery studio under Kawai Kanijiro.
If you have an opportunity to visit the individual pottery studios leaded by the famous ceramic artists, do not miss the chance to drop into the Atelier Le Tallec founded by Camille Le Tallec. He is a world-known Limoges porcelain ceramic artist.
