Organizational Effectiveness Course (OEC)

On Thursday, June 26, 2003, the Arts Council in Buffalo & Erie County presented certificates of completion for the 2003 Organizational Effectiveness Course (OEC) to 13 local arts agencies at The Olmsted Center for the Visually Impaired.  Organizations were chosen by a competitive process to participate in this five-month management training program, which was funded by the Peter C. Cornell Trust, with additional support from the New York State Council on the Arts and the County of Erie.

The course was designed to address the management needs of small and mid-sized nonprofit cultural organizations in the Buffalo Niagara Region.  The following cultural groups participated; Buffalo City Ballet, Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, Carnegie Art Center, Cheektowaga Community Chorus, The Juneteenth Festival, just buffalo literary center, Neglia Ballet Artists, Neto Hatinakwe Onkwehowe, Polish Arts Club of Buffalo, The Roycrofters At-Large Association, Springville Center for the Arts, Squeaky Wheel, and The Western New York Artists Group.

Celeste Lawson, Executive Director of the Arts Council, had this to say about the graduating organizations, “they are to be congratulated for investing their precious time and energy to make their organization stronger for the future.”
