The Arts Council in Buffalo and Erie County announces the availability of Special Opportunity Stipends (S.O.S.) to offer support to individual artists. The Special Opportunity Stipends benefit artists in the literary, media, visual, music and theater disciplines. Artist can earn from $100 to $600 for specific, forthcoming projects. Applications may be picked up at the Arts Council in Buffalo & Erie County or downloaded at www.nyfa.org. Artists living in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties may apply for SOS funding through the Arts Council in Buffalo & Erie County. The following dates are NOT postmark deadlines. Applications must be received by 5:00pm on the specified dates.

        Round 2 - For opportunities in: March - June: February 1

        Round 3 - For opportunities in July - October: May 24

The S.O.S. grant supports travel accommodations associated with artist’s own exhibitions and workshops, costs for materials to make their work unique, opportunities for advanced study with a significant mentor, professional fees, and services for lighting, graphic design or carpentry, expenses related to child daycare, allowing the artist to take advantage of a specific opportunity, and rental equipment.

The S.O.S. grant is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, as well as contributions from private foundations, and friends of New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA).
